Drug abuse and causes…

Drugs are other substances aside food that supplies the body with nutrients and brings about temporary physiological and sometimes psychological changes in the body when introduced into the system through absorption, injection, inhalation, under tongue dissolution or as patch on the skin.
Drugs can be classified into different groups depending on the purpose the serve.
Though there are alot of things drugs are associated with, but for the purpose of this article, we will be focusing on drugs abuse.

While drugs can be of importance to health when adequately managed, they can also be hazardous to health when they are abused.
Drug abuse involves the consumption or use of the substance in a method or quantity that are harmful to oneselves or others. Drug abuse is a serious public health problem that affects almost every community and family in some way. Drugs most often associated with this term include alcohol, cannabis, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methaqualone, opioids and some substituted amphetamines. 
Apart from its ability to cause psychological and physiological trauma to its direct victim, it also end up posing as threats to others who are not directly involved with it such as drugged driving, violence, stress, and child abuse. It can also lead to homelessness, crime, and missed work or problems with keeping a job. It harms unborn babies and destroys families. 
The exact cause of drug abuse is not clear, with the two predominant theories being either a genetic disposition which is learned from others, or a habit which if addiction develops, manifests itself as a chronic debilitating disease.
As far as drug abuse is concern, there are no specific set of people associated with it. Drug abuse information indicates that all ethnicities, ages, social groups and genders can have drug abuse problems. Drug abuse is not as a result of flaws in character but rather a medical condition that has developed over time. 
While the exact reason for drug abuse is unclear, but there are some factors that may be responsible for such condition or change in character some of which includes:
  • Environment: With regards to the environment, there are so many factors that may predispose one to become a victim of such conditions especially among the younger generation. factors such as divorce, pear pressure, unemployment, heartbreaks, poor parenting, bad relationship with parents or guardians, poor grades in school, availability of drugs from friends and environment, poor neighbourhoods, amongst others. Some people especially the youths when faced with challenges, tends to find solace in drugs so as to enable the get over the situation for the time being.
  • Genetics: Though drug usage is linked with quite a number of population, but just a few out of the crowd abuse drugs. While it has been proven beyond reasonable doubt that parents with an history of drug abuse are bound to have children who grows up and end up as drugs abuser, there are also children from drug abuse parents who grow up without drug abuse problem. In the same vain, it is also possible for a child with parents without any trace of drug abuse to grow up with drug abuse problem. This shows that though genetics may be a major factor for drug abuse, but the problem of drug abuse does not depend on genetic factors alone.
  • Co-occurrence condition: In conditions like depression, the victim may employ the use of drugs so as to enable him/her contain the situation, persistence use of drugs for such condition may create room for drug abuse especially if such person indulge in self prescription. While trying to manage  particular mental condition through getting high in order to try and suppress such condition, it may create room for drug abuse.
